New Zealand wine advisor, Raymond Chan, gave our Fern Ridge 2014 Hawke’s Bay Pinot Gris 17.5 points out of 20 (4 stars), and said: “Bright, very pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is gently voluminous with good depth of aromatic, ripe yellow stonefruits with yellow floral and savoury spice nuances adding interest. A steely, minerally freshness enlivens the nose. Off-dry to dry in taste and medium-bodied, light white and yellow stonefruit flavours are nuanced by savoury florals and a suggestion of honeysuckle. The palate is rounded with discreet acidity providing good balance and freshness. The mouthfeel grows in presence and finely managed phenolic textures guide the wine to a sustained, subtly-flavoured finish with good vinosity. This is a subtly-flavoured dryish Pinot Gris with good weight, presence and vinosity.
